Position Objectives:

NATURE OF WORK

Under general supervision,provides general security for the court and staff; maintains vigilance in courtrooms and hallways; attempts to defuse or prevent confrontations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

 

  • Maintains security of court buildings and grounds.
  • Screens citizens entering the court and their personal items for weapons, contraband, or otherwise suspicious items not allowed in the court.
  • Monitors individuals in the courtroom when court is in session.
  • Arrests persons on outstanding warrants or order of the court.
  • Receives and reviews reports of law violations occurring on court property.
  • Tends to juries.
  • Attends POST continuing education as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Standing for long periods of time (8+ hours)

Minimum Requirements:

WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed in a standard office environment and involves sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending reaching, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.

 

Desirable Training and Experience:

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Most possess a Missouri State Class A POST certification. Depending on area of assignment, a valid Driver’s License, Notary Public License, and/or other specialized certifications may be required.

Must complete a psychological exam

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Knowledge of:

  • County and Department policies and procedures.
  • Defensive tactics.
  • Court processes and procedures.
  • Safety policies procedures and practices.
  • Prisoner movement procedures.

 

Skills in:

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Operating a personal computer including standard software and some specialized software.
  • Identifying suspicious behaviors.
  • Executing personal protection strategies.
