Permits to carry concealed weapons are issued at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Applicants must meet certain requirements and pay a fee for the permit. For a complete list of the concealed carry laws, please contact the Attorney General's office.

Please note: Constitutional Carry does not eliminate all needs for a Concealed Carry Permit. We suggest you read the statutes before making a decision whether or not to apply for, or renew, your Concealed Carry Permit.

First time applicants who live in Franklin County Missouri should schedule an appointment with us after completing a Missouri concealed carry weapons course. Appointment length will vary but is typically between ten and fifteen minutes.
Please bring the following to your appointment:

Missouri Training Qualification form-signed by the instructor (we do NOT accept any online training forms from an online course. Missouri law does not allow this.)

Drivers License or State ID

Fee of $100.00 payable by check, money order, or cash (we do NOT accept debit/credit)

Proof of residency if driver's license does not reflect a Franklin County address
The average processing time for new applications is 1-2 weeks. You will receive notification by mail once the permit has been approved. This letter will include instructions as to how/when to come sign for the permit. Only the applicant that applied can come sign for the permit.-
To Renew your CCW permit, schedule an appointment for the month your current CCW permit will expire. The fee for a renewal is $50 payable by check, money order, or cash. We are NOT able to accept debit/credit cards.

Please note: Per state statute, there will be an additional $10 per month late fee for any renewal processed after the expiration month. Any permit that is six months or more past the expiration date will have to be processed as a new applicant and will require new fingerprints. For more information on the New Applicant process please refer to the corresponding page.-
If you have lost your CCW card or had it stolen, you will need to schedule an appointment to get a replacement card. There is a fee of $10 to replace a CCW permit. Please select the "Lost or Stolen" option when scheduling your appointment.

Name Change
In the event of a name change, the permit holder must provide proof of their name change within 30 days to the Sheriff of the county they reside. Please schedule an appointment for a "Name/Address Change". There is a $10 fee for name changes.
Please bring the following to your appointment:

Oringinal name change document (marriage license/certificate, divorce papers or other court issued document pertaining to the name change)

Address Change
If moving from one address to another within the same county your current CCW permit was issued, it is not required to update your address with the sheriff. You will wait to update the address the next time your permit is renewed.
If moving from one county to another county you will need to update your address with the sheriff of the county you moved into. If you have not yet updated your driver's license or State ID card, you must provide documents (such as an insurance policy, tax bill, utility bill, or lease agreement) that show proof of residencey with the new address within 30 days after changing permanent residence.
If you have moved into Franklin County, MO and have an existing permit please schedule an appointment for "Name/Address Change". There is a $10 fee for an address change.

We request that if you have your original training documents, please bring them with you to the appointment.-
There are many instructors available in the Franklin County area. However, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office is not allowed to recommend a particular instructor or to provide a list of instructors for you to choose from. It will be the responsibility of the applicant to research instructors and determine which one will suit their needs. You may find an instructor via the internet, phone book or any gun shop.
Procedures for Instructors to be on file

You will need to provide a copy of your drivers license with current home address -(if your address doesn't match, you'll need to provide proof of residence)

You will need to provide a copy of your training certification-whether it's NRA,Police Officer,etc

You will need to provice a copy of your training syllabus

You will need to provide a phone number in case there are any questions
The information can be emailed or mailed. No faxes are accepted because the photos do not come through clearly.
Once this is received, you will be on file with Franklin County only. If you want to be on the state database, you will need to get your documents notarized and pay a $10.00 fee each year. You can only pay to be online in the county you reside in. To ensure someone is available to assist you, we prefer that you schedule an appointment for Instructor Entry / Renewal to be added to the state database.-

Is there a way I can sign for my permit ahead of time while I am applying for my concealed carry?

No-RSMO 571.101.7 states that the applicant applying shall sign the permit in the presence of the sheriff or designee once it is approved.

How long is a permit valid?
-
Once the permit is approved, it is valid for 5 years. Renewals are also valid for 5 years.

Do I need to report a change of address?
-
If you have moved from one county to another, you have 30 days to notify the sheriff's office of the county you have moved into. Please schedule an appointment for "Name/Address Change" if you are moving into Franklin County. A permit shall become invalid if the permit holder has not notified the sheriff.

If you are moving within the same County, you are not required to notify the sheriff of an address change. Your address can be updated at the time your permit is due for renewal.

Do I need to report a name change?

Yes. If your name changes, you will need to notify the sheriff within 30 days. Please schedule an appointment for a "Name/Address Change". A permit shall become invalid if the permit holder has not notified the sheriff within that length of time.

Do I have to report a destroyed or lost permit?
-
You must notify the sheriff or designee after knowledge of the lost or destroyed permit within 7 days.

Is someone with a Green Card able to apply for a permit?
-
Yes- If you are not a US citizen, you must show a valid Green Card with a permanent resident number in order to apply.

How long does it take to process a new application?
-
The sheriff has up to 45 days to issue a permit. The average time is usually 1 - 2 weeks for issuance.
